All children, irrespective of linguistic, social, religious background or nationality are welcome in Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille. Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille was founded to serve parents in the area who wished their children to be educated through the medium of Irish. In the allocation of school places preference is given therefore to children who are being brought up through Irish.

While recognising the right of parents to enrol their child in the school of their choice, the Board of Management of Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille must also respect the rights of the existing school community and in particular, the children already enrolled. This requires balanced judgements, which are guided by the principles of natural justice and acting in the best interest of all children. Assisting the school in such circumstances, the Board of Management reserves the right to determine the maximum number of children in each separate class.

Exceptional Circumstances – In exceptional circumstances, the Board of Management reserves the right to make a decision in respect of an application for admission to Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille , that may not strictly adhere to the above order. This will only be done in exceptional circumstances where the Board feels that the good of the child/ the school is dependent on this decision.

The Board of Management will determine the number of children to be enrolled in junior infants on a yearly basis. The school’s enrolment will be taken into consideration in taking this decision.

Places will be allocated in November.

The parents / guardians are asked to confirm in writing that they wish to accept the place offered to their child. They are asked to pay a deposit to secure their child’s place in the school. The deposit covers the cost of the child’s schoolbooks and stationary for the first year.  (L3)

When all the places have been allocated the remaining parents / guardians will be informed that their child’s name may be placed on a waiting list if they so wish. (L4)

The first preference order listed above will be used in processing the waiting list.

Should a place become available after this it will be offered to the child who is first on the list. (L5)
