ATHLETICS – Cumann na mBunscol

Pupils from 3rd to 6th class represented the school in the Cumann na mBunscol Athletics Competitions in Santry on Monday the 22nd of May. The first day of this two day event was a Field Day which saw  competitors from the school participate in 600m, Long Jump, Shot Putt & Hurdles at various age levels.

All the pupils who competed put their hearts and souls into their respective competitions and three of them came away with medals.  They were, Yena Ní Fhéich who came 2nd in the under 14 shot putt,    Oilibhéar Ticher who came 1st in the under 12 long jump competition and Breandán Mac Cionnaith who came 3rd in the 600m race.

Oran Ó Braonáin,  Aoife Ní Néill,  Conal Ó Riain and Ellie Nic Dhomhnaill all reached their respective hurdles finals and were pipped at the post to come 4th.

The Track day will take place on  Monday next the 29th of May and this will consist of individual sprints and relay races. We wish the pupils (over 40 of them) who will be competing for the school on that day the very best of luck.

Indoor Hurling Competition : Rang a 3   

R3A and R3B will participate in the Corn Andy Gibbons indoor hurling competition against local schools – Holy Cross, Holy Trinity, Our Lady of the Wayside, St. Mary’s, St. Olaf’s and Queen of Angels – on three successive weeks starting on the 7th of March. The games will take place in the Naomh Olaf GAA Clubhouse hall.

Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille have won the cup for the past four years and we intend to challenge for it again this year!

CAMOGIE & HURLING FINALS

12.20 pm & 1.30 pm

 Not only has the senior hurling team made it to the Cumann na mBunscol finals in Croke Park on Monday 20/06/2016 but the girls camogie team managed to secure their place in the finals also by winning their semi-final replay match on Tuesday of this week. We are so proud of all the girls and boys and are really excited about the great day that’s ahead of us. This is an extremelly special day for the school especially as this will be the first time that the school’s camogie team has made it to the finals. What a great achievement and a fabulous way to celebrate the school’s 20 years – two football finals played and won already this year and 2 more finals to go!

ATHLETICS – TRACK EVENTS   – Santry

The school team who competed in Santry today

The Track Event Day in Santry was another successful one for the pupils of Taobh na Coille. Ruth Ní hAoláín did us proud when she brought home a bronze medal in the 60m sprint U10.

Both our girl’s and boy’s U10 relay teams also came 3rd in the final. Well done to Ruth Ní hAoláin, Clodagh Ní Chartúin, Meave Ní Ghrádaigh, Caroline Ní Fhaoláin and Aoife Ní Néill who represented the girls and Ted Ó hUigín, Charlie Flusk, Óran Ó Braonáin, Nicholas Ó Tóibín and Cathal Ó Craidhin who ran for the boys.

ATHLETICS – Santry

Monday 23rd May. Roughly 200 schools took part on the day in the following events – shot putt, long/high jump, hurdles and the 600m. Four participants from Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille came home with medals.

Well done to David Bosch (hurdles U12) and Brendan Ó Cionnaith (600m U11) who won gold medals and Liam Ó Donaile (600m U12) and Róisín Ní Chathasaigh (600m U14) who both brought home silver.

Comhghairdeas leis na páistí ar fad a ghlac páirt. We are very proud of them all.

An Múinteoir Karl Priestley le R3B                      An Múinteoir Oisín Mac Muiris le R3A

ANDY GIBBONS CUP  : Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille have won the Andy Gibbons Cup – an local indoor hurling competition for 3rd class pupils  in the St Olaf’s GAA catchment area – for the fourth time in succession and remarkably for the sixth time in the past seven years. An Múinteoir Priestley’s class R3B were comprehensive victors (7-1) over Holy Cross NS in a repeat of last year’s final. Team Captain Cathal Ó Craidhn accepted the cup on behalf of the deserving victors. Earlier in the afternoon, An Múinteoiir Mac Muiris’ class R3A overcame Our Lady of the Wayside 5-3 in a tightly contested Plate final to complete the double.

HURLING & CAMOGIE  : The school has been participating with great success to date in Cumann na mBunscol hurling and camogie competitions for the past couple of months. The girls’ team topped their Olly Quinlan group and face Mourne Road GNS in their quarter final in Naomh Olaf GAA Club on Thursday 19th of May.The senior hurling team are competing in Corn Ághais and they too have reached the quarter final. They face Scoil Oilibhéar, Coolemine in Hermitage Park on Tuesday 24th of May.

ATHLETICS : Children from 3rd to 6th class will represent the school in the Cumann na mBunscol Athletics in Santry later this month. The Field Day will take place on Monday 23rd of May and will see competitors from the school participate in 600m, Long Jump, Shot Putt and Hurdles at various age groups. The Track day will take place a week later on Monday 30th May and this will consist of individual sprints and relay races.

BUÍOCHAS : Buíochas mór to the  múinteoirí who train the various teams and a special go raibh maith agat to our parents Turlach Ó Meachair & Gearóid Ó Riain who help us with the hurling training.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS REACH THE FINALS

The senior football team and the girls’ football teams have reached Cumann na mBunscol finals, and will play  in Croke Park on Tuesday the 3rd of November. It promises to be special occasion for the school and we invite you to support the teams.

1.10pm            Clanna Gael Cup         (Senior Team v Gaelsccoil Bhrian Boróimhe, Swords)

2.20pm            An Chladaigh Shield    (Girls Team v St Mary’s, Woodview, Lucan)

All Pupils from 3rd-6th class will travel by bus to Croke Park on the day of the final to support our footballers. They will return to the school by 4.30pm.

FOOTBALL LEAGUES

GIRLS FOOTBALL : The girls’ football team are participating in Cumann na mBunnscol’s Corn an Chladaigh this year. They played Scoil Mológa, Scoil Naithí and Scoil Nmh. Olaf in the group stages. A third placed finish resulted in a meeting with Scoil Treasa in the quarter finals of the shield, a game they won 3.10 v 2.06. They now look forward to a semi-final against Our Lady’s Grove PS in Deerpark on Wednesday.

BOYS FOOTBALL : Victories over St. Killian’s, Kilnamanagh; Oatlands, Stillorgan and Scoil Olaf, Ballaly ensured the school’s senior football team topped their Corn Chlanna Gael group. They overcame very tough opponents in St Benedict’s NS, Ongar, Clonee 3.09 v 3.06 in a tightly contested quarter final and now face a difficult trip to Corduff in their semi-final on Thursday.
