Corn Comhar Linn

The girls’ football participated in Cumann na mBunscol’s Corn Comhar Linn this year. They recorded victories against St. Brigid’s, Cabinteely (5.05 v 2.03) and St. Attracta’s SNS, Ballinteer (3.07 v 2.05) in the group stages but fell short against Monkstown’s Scoil Lorcáin in Round 2, losing by a 3.02 v 1.03 margin. They finished as group runners up and faced tough opponents in Scoil Áine, Lucan in the Quarter Finals. Despite trailing in the match, they dug deep and claimed a 2.05 v 1.03 victory. They overcame a much fancied Mount Anville NS, Mount Merrion 2.03 v 1.02 in a closely fought out Semi Final.

The girls’ next faced a date with Scoil Maelruain in the Croke Park decider. Their Tallaght opponents were full value for their 0.03 v 0.01 interval lead but the Gaelscoil upped their efforts to overcome their rivals outscoring them 2.04 v 1.03 in the second half to record a two point victory (2.05 v 1.06).

Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille won the Division 2 title and their supporters – made up mainly of pupils from Rang a 3-6 – were in full voice as team Captain, Ruth Ní Aoláin and Vice-Captain, Sadhbh Ní Bhroin proudly accepted the cup on behalf of the school.

Many thanks to An Múinteoir Priestley and An Múinteoir Ó Dubhthaigh who managed the team on the day of the final and to Turlough Ó Meachair (Daidí Aoibheann) agus Ruth Uí Scannail (Mamaí Kate) for the training they did with the panel over the past couple of months.
