The girls’ football team reached the Cumann na mBunscol Division 1 shield final – playing against the biggest and best footballing schools in the county. This was a truly special occasion and the entire school community was extremely proud of the girls for making it to the final in this competitive and challenging division. What a wonderful achievement for the girls and their trainer an Múinteoir Maoilíosa Ó Dubhthaigh.
The Austin Finn Shield Final was played in Croke Park at 11.10am on Wednesday 23rd October. Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille took on Bishop Galvin NS, Tempelogue, a school double our size and played a tough and challenging match. Bishop Galvin NS dominated the first 15 minutes of the match but Taobh na Coille pulled out all the stops and fought back to finish level at half time (TnC 1.03 v 0.06 BG).
There was no going back in the second half and Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille stretched ahead, widening the gap between both teams and finishing with a great win and a 4 point lead. Taobh na Coille 4.04 V 2.06 Bishop Galvin
Pupils from R3 to R6 travelled to Croke Park on the day to support their team and their voices could be heard above the crowds as they encouraged the girls on the pitch.
Míle, míle buíochas to An Múinteoir Maoilíosa Ó Dubhthaigh (bainisteoir), An Múinteoir Katie Grimes and Turlach Ó Meachair (Daidí Aoibheann & Saoirse) for all the time they have put into training the girls since September.
